A to Z Music Challenge - E is for Missy Elliot, Danny Elfman, Expose, En Vogue, The Eagles, Evanescence, Eminem and Earth, Wind & Fire

Every one of these posts is hard, because I'm always inevitably leaving someone out.  The truth is that I love so much about music that these posts could all end up novellas.  And no one ain't got time for that.

Off we go.

Missy Elliot
The most successful female rapper ever, I love her because she's fierce.  She tells it like it is.  She doesn't let anyone or anything hold her back.  She's been out of the spotlight for a few years fighting Grave's disease, but hopes to get back to the stage soon.  We're waiting.

Danny Elfman
He's best known for being the lead singer for Oingo Boingo, but I can promise that most people know his movie music better. He's got a weird, dark sense of humor, which just endears him to people like me. He's written the music for most of Tim Burton's movies, including Pee Wee's Big Adventure and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

They were the late 80's, defined.  Cheesy music and big hair, their songs are an essential part of the background music of those years.

En Vogue
This quartet of sexy sang their way through the 90's, thanks to some creative lyrics, some hot harmonies and videos that could make anyone drool.  I'm pretty sure we all wanted a silver mini dress after this one. Hawtness.

The Eagles
They were never the fastest, never the hardest, never the edgiest, never the most controversial, but man did they have a hell of a career.  The music that just about anyone knows all the words to.  Don Henley has a gift, and with the rest of the band together they made history.  This is required on the playlist for all my family reunions.

They've broken up and come back together, but anyone who's a fan knows that it's Amy Lee that makes them who they are.  Her voice is hauntingly beautiful.  The songs stab you in the heart.  She's one angry, vengeful lady, and I freaking adore her.

When I started teaching my son about music, we talked about Eminem one day.  The boy asked a valid question about Marshall: if he's so rich, why is he still so angry?

No answer for that one, but I know that his anger is what has propelled him to fame, that and the fact that he can drop lyrics with the best of them.  He has gone from just being another rapper to a force to be reckoned with in the industry, one of the few artists who make music what it is today.  Angry or not, we love him.  I'm kinda glad he's always so pissed off.  Makes for good music.

Earth, Wind & Fire
These are the songs that will make anyone get up and dance. I don't care how old you are. I don't care what color your skin is, what kind of music you gravitate to, whether you even like to dance.  When the DJ plays this, YOU GET UP AND DANCE.  You just do. I do. We all do. Get on up.

  1. Love Love LOVE all of them! Thank you! :*

  2. This is so fun! What a trip down memory lane.
