Photo Challenge - Day 16

Day 16~

I went completely literal with this one, but that doesn't mean you have to. This is the electric piano that has been filling my house with music, mostly played by my eldest son. In this way, and maybe this way alone, he is like me. He can hear a song and figure it out. I hope that someday he'll be able to read music though, unlike his mother.

  1. I'm a pianist, and if there's one thing I will do for my kids, it is to give them a good foundation in classical music methodology while they're young. I did Suzuki-style lessons for the first several years I played (and I started at age 3), and I feel I would be a much better sight-reader if I had begun with traditional sheet music sooner. I can read it now, but that is largely from my voice training. If they decide to switch to other instruments than piano or guitar, or just to not play anything, I'll support them completely. But reading sheet music is something I want them to be able to do before they make those decisions.

    1. Not learning to sight read is one of the things I regret the most. I loved playing, but couldn't keep it up once I hit that wall. Too hard to fake it once the chords got complicated, and I could only play so much y memory...
